About 14 m even higher than the great Shwedagon in Yangon, the Shwemawdaw pagoda stands tall and proud over the city of Bago. Shwemawdaw is a good destination during the annual pagoda festival which takes place in March and it attracts huge crowds of worshippers and merrymakers.

The Water Festival is held in April which is the hottest month of the year in Myanmar. It is also the Myanmar New Year Festival. People pour water on one another to get relief from the midsummer heat. They also celebrate it as a symbolic gesture of cleansing the impurities of the old year. 


Name:                  Shitthaung Pagoda Festival

One of the temples in Mrauk U, the Shitthaung pagoda is regarded as the grandest of all Mrauk U's monuments and of great significance to Rakhine people. Its name means 'Temple of 80000 Images, named after the number of holy images inside. Its pagoda festival is annually held in June.


Name:                  Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda Festival

Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda is located in Inle Lake, Southern Shan State. It is a venue of one of the country's most important festivals and it takes place in Ocotber for 15 days. During the festival days, a ceremonial barge carries four of the five Buddha Images around the lake from village to village.

Thadingyut Lighting Festival is celebrated to commemorate the night of Buddha, after preaching to His mother and other heavenly beings, returned from the heavenly realm some 25 centuries ago. Millions of candles and oil lamps illuminate monasteries, pagodas and houses throughout the land.


Name:                  Taunggyi Balloon Festival

Despite the capital of Shan State, Taunggyi would be little known among the tourists if it wasn't for its Balloon Festival. Also known as Taunggyi Tazaungdaing Festival, the Balloon Festival takes place in November. People hold the festival by launching the fire balloons into the night sky.
