Myeik
Lined with all kinds of hidden sights, Myeik, which has around 285,000 inhabitants and is located about 260 km south of Dawei, can be described as one of the most beautiful coastal towns in Myanmar. Numerous pagodas, colonial facades and idyllic monasteries spread out on hills with wonderful views characterize the lively city. In addition to trading in tin, tungsten, rubber, coconuts, rattan, bird nests and pearls, the port town lives primarily from fishing. Myeik is also a starting point for visiting the around 800 islands of the Mergui Archipelago.

Theindawgyi Pagoda

As the most important sanctuary in Myeik, Theindawgyi Pagoda rises on a mountain above the city. It was built in 18th century. The prayer hall was built in Mon style from wood, bricks and stucco and has an impressively carved, painted wooden ceiling. Next to a spacious prayer hall, there is a large golden stupa surrounded by four smaller ones. In front of a reclining Buddha figure is a giant seated Buddha figure. The pagoda offers a wonderful view of the harbor and the offshore island of Pataw Padet.
